Screening of Yi Yi
On Saturday, September 19, as part of the Taiwan Film Weekend, we will screen Yi Yi (2000), directed by Edward Yang.
Yi Yi follows a Taiwanese family as they navigate personal uncertainties, moral dilemmas, and quiet crises that challenge their relationships and their understanding of life. Through the rhythms of everyday life, director Edward Yang creates an intimate portrait of a society in transition, where urban routines, loneliness, and the desire for a different life intertwine with universal questions of existence.
At the center of the story is N.J., a software engineer facing ethical dilemmas at a struggling company. His wife, Min-Min, is shaken when her mother falls into a coma and, disillusioned by the emptiness of her everyday life, seeks refuge in a religious group. Meanwhile, her brother A-Di faces the consequences of his irresponsible choices, while the children, Ting-Ting and Yang-Yang, each in their own way, begin to discover love and the mysteries of the adult world.
