What happens when the right to boycott becomes a matter of legal and political dispute?
Directed by Julia Bacha, Boycott examines a wave of anti-boycott legislation introduced across the United States, targeting individuals and businesses that choose to boycott Israel in response to its human rights record. Through the stories of three ordinary Americans, an attorney in Arizona, a speech therapist in Texas, and a newspaper publisher in Arkansas, the documentary follows their legal battles after being forced to choose between their political convictions and their professional livelihoods.
As these individuals challenge the legislation in court, the film reveals the broader implications of restricting political expression and raises fundamental questions about freedom of speech, civil liberties, and the right to peaceful protest. By connecting personal experiences with a wider political and legal struggle, Boycott explores the importance of dissent and the role of collective action in defending democratic rights.
Boycott will be screened as part of the Palestinian Days Around the World initiative!
