Martini is a young boy who is going through adolescence. He is not happy in his house and decides to run away. He gets a summer job at a hotel where his manager begins to show Martin another reality. Martini meets the love of his life at the same time as he is taken under the wing of the yacht club restaurant chief, a playboy at the center of Swedish society. But hiding behind the stunning façade in the archipelago's idyllic setting is a much darker reality. Before Martin really realises what is happening, he finds himself in the middle of one of the biggest scandals in Swedish crime history.
An emotional narrative about the fragility of adolescence, director Hannes Holm portrays the idealism and nostalgia of the 1970s. Behind Blue Skies was an official selection at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival.
